About

Dirtbagger is a resourceful new blog that is focused on finding the most adventure-laden, experience-driven, sustainable, community-oriented, and CHEAP ways to travel the US.

The inspiration for this blog/website came from a solo road trip through the Western US where a plan to survive off of $15 a day (sans gas) proved to be a complete delusion. Frustration ensued… I knew that I could exist in my home state with that, but traveling outside of it – I didn’t know where to go. Conventional travel books offered nothing in the terms of the extreme budgeter. I feel like there are excellent cheap travel type guides for other countries – but for the US – nada.

I guess we are adopting the term dirtbagger – as a way to describe the dreamer, adventurer, conventional dissenter, uber cheap, and sometimes well-worn traveler. The new dirtbag has evolved into an ambitious, eco-conscience, cooperative individual from its dirty, unkempt, and contemptable roots.

A journey into the wilderness is the freest, cheapest, most nonprivileged of pleasures.
Anyone with two legs and the price of a pair of army surplus combat boots may enter.
